The Slater Fire has grown slightly to 141,403 acres and remains 10% contained. There was successful backing down to Knopki Creek and some small growth on the northern and eastern edges. 659 personnel are assigned to Slater/Devils fires.
Today Northern Rockies Team 2 takes over command of the north and west portions of the fire, including Del Norte. This is a Type 1 team. There are 16 national “Type 1” Incident Management Teams (IMT’s) available for assignment to manage large-scale, complex incidents anywhere in the United States. These incidents usually involve large wildfires, but Type 1 Teams can be assigned to any complex all-risk situation which could include hurricanes, floods and other disasters.
Winds are expected to be light today, beginning from the east early, and switching to come from the west/southwest later in the day. Gusts may be 12-16mph after 1pm.
There is no update yet on Hwy 199.
There is a possibility that as smoke clears on the west side of the fire you may begin to see “the air show” – or aircraft fighting the fire. This is a good thing as they will be working to protect the things we value.
