The Housing Department was established in 2001 through the rescinding of the Smith River Rancheria Housing Authority. The primary purpose of the Department is to ensure housing resources of the Nation are secured. The Department oversees eleven programs, and has been awarded HUD grants annually. The primary function on the Department is to provide appropriate housing for the citizens of the Nation.
Mission
The Tolowa Dee-ni’ Nation intends to develop appropriate housing opportunities for all Native Americans of Federally Recognized Tribes with preference given to its Tolowa Dee-ni’ Nation (TDN) members who reside in Del Norte and Humboldt counties in the State of California and Curry, Coos and Josephine counties in the State of Oregon. These opportunities shall be tailored to meet the needs and circumstances of all Native Americans with preference given to TDN members and shall consist of ownership, rental, and tribal owned units. The Nation shall endeavor to expand its land base in order to provide the needed housing opportunities.
Goal
The Goal of the Housing Department is to promote culturally appropriate housing opportunities within the five county service area.
