Celebration of Life for Russ Crabtree
We have the very sad responsibility to inform you all that Russ Crabtree, the Tolowa Dee-ni’ Nation’s former Tribal Administrator, passed away on the afternoon of October the 18th, 2017.
Russ came to the Tolowa Dee-ni’ Nation in 2005 and retired in 2016, after eleven years of service to the Nation. Russ was instrumental in all of the infrastructure and development projects that the Nation has undertaken in the last eleven years. This includes the development of our Wastewater system, upgrades to our drinking water system, and numerous safety improvements to our roads and buildings. Russ helped the Nation secure a multi-million dollar TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery) III grant, allowing for safety improvements to Highway 101 and making the Tolowa Dee-ni’ Nation one of the only Tribes in the nation that was able to secure the grant.
He further played a key role in the renovation of the Lucky 7 Casino and championed the design and construction of the Howonquet Lodge, both of which led to increased employment opportunities, revenues and services to Tribal Citizens. One of Russ’ frequent sayings was that we had to “build the road before we drive on it”. Russ’ hard work and commitment to increasing our capacity for growth has surely resulted in not only our current prosperity but also the exciting times that lie ahead of us.
Tolowa Dee-ni’ Nation will be hosting a “Celebration of Life” on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Xaa-wan’-k’wvt Hall Community Center. The hours are 12:00-2:00pm. It will be a potluck.
Our hearts grieve,
