Tribal Government  


The Smith River Rancheria Tribal Government exercises governmental authority and strives to promote economic and social development, advocate and secure tribal rights, to secure tribal lands, to enhance educational opportunities and to protect traditional cultural values with a unified voice on behalf of its tribal members.

The Tribal Government was re-instated in 1985 and continues to serve the tribal members through a variety of federal, state, and privately funded programs.

Council

The Smith River Rancheria is led by a Tribal Council – comprised of seven tribal members who have been elected by their peers. Members of the Tribal Council, as well as members of its committees, contribute a significant amount of their personal time and energy to look after the well being of the Smith River Rancheria and the activities of the Tribe.

Tribal Gaming Agency

The Tribal Gaming Agency (TGA) was established by the Smith River Rancheria Tribal Council as an independent regulatory body to regulate gaming operations on the Smith River Rancheria.  The TGA consists of five (5) Commissioners, appointed by the Tribal Council, five (5) full time staff members and a Surveillance Department of eight (8) employees.  The Gaming Commissioners meet monthly at regular scheduled meetings.
