APRIL IS CHILD ABUSE AWARENESS MONTH
In 2011 more than 3.7 million children were abused or neglected and 1545 children died as a result of Child Abuse or Neglect nationwide. 78% of Child Abuse and Neglect cases are referred for neglect only. In 2012, Community and Family Services served 84 children who were victims of abuse or neglect. All but 3 of our cases were substance abuse related and all were neglect.
Child Abuse and Neglect affects everyone in our community. In order to effect change, all adults need to make prevention of child abuse their top priority. If you see abuse or neglect, please report to your local child abuse agency or call CFS. If you do not know if it is abuse or neglect, please contact us, we can discuss the situation and help you make a decision to report or not. Child Welfare agencies have made many positive changes to the system. Children are removed in smaller numbers than ever before as we work together to support children and families. Please stand with us as we work to prevent child abuse and neglect in our community.
