Howonquet Head Start

Mission Statement
"To provide a safe, loving, healthy, nurturing, culturally rich environment that stimulates growth in children, families and community."

The Head Start program at the Smith River Rancheria is a part-day program to eligible children in our Childrens Center located at 12840 Mouth Smith River Road, Smith River CA.

The Head Start program is based on the premise that all children share certain needs and that from low-income families, in particular, can benefit from a comprehensive developmental program to meet those needs.  Head Start is a family oriented, comprehensive and community based program to address developmental goals for children, support for parents in their work and child-rearing roles and linkage with other service delivery systems.

The Howonquet Head Start serves breakfast, lunch and a snack under the USDA School Lunch Program to all participants at no additional charge.

The school year starts shortly after Labor Day and follows the public school calendar.  The program runs from 8:30am - 12pm Monday through Thursday.  The Howonquet Head Start Program also provides services to children with disabilities.

There is no fee for the Howonquet Head Start Program.
